The Spinney Children's Centre
The Spinney Children's Centre is situated next to the school and can be accessed via a separate entrance. They provide a variety of services for parents including school readiness, parenting courses and access to health services. The Spinney Children's Centre also acts as administrator for Spinney Nursery - Sweet Peas two year provision - and after school care on behalf of the school.
The Spinney Nursery is a high quality provision which provides a safe and friendly environment, with morning and afternoon session, Monday to Friday for two year olds. The skilled, experienced staff ensure that each session is carefully planned to provide stimulating, fun activities for all the children. They can offer fully funded session via government FEET funding.
After School Club
The school offers after school care for children aged 4 to 11 years. This provision is administered by the Children's Centre and sessions are arranged via The Spinney. The sessions offered are from the end of school until 4.15pm or 6.00pm. A light tea is offered for children who stay until 6.00pm and is provided by the school catering team. Resources are provided for all ages in a relaxed, fun environment. This is beneficial to parents who are working or studying, or just need a bit of extra time to themselves.
Play and Learn
The Spinney Children's Centre offers three stay and play sessions a week for families with children under 5 years. These are carefully planned to encourage parents and children to play together, stimulating the child's imagination and development. One of our Outreach Workers is present during the majority of each session enabling parents to gain support and advice on parenting and child development. They help with applying for FEET funding and finding appropriate childcare.
Many health services are provided at the centre including midwife clinics, well baby clinics, development checks, and advice on starting family foods. They arrange first aid courses and give advice on safety in the home.
The Centre offers access to parenting courses and a referral process enables the Outreach Workers to visit parents in their own home to provide one to one help and advice. There is a programme of adult learning courses running throughout the year.
Employment, Training and Education
The Spinney can offer support with finding employment, writing a C.V. or gaining experience through training. Their dedicated advisor holds one to one meetings to discuss the support required and to guide parents through the process.
