At Guildford Grove, we pride ourselves in providing a safe, happy and stimulating environment where children’s learning is at the heart of everything we do. Our priority is to foster our children’s excitement and motivation for learning in their formative years, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and understanding to be confident, independent, and successful learners and instilling in them a lifelong love of learning. The curriculum at Guildford Grove is well planned, meaningful, challenging and practical. It makes connections between all areas of learning, ensuring that the children receive a broad and balanced curriculum across the year group. We use broad topics with strong links to make learning meaningful and purposeful between subjects, ensuring full coverage of the National Curriculum. Our curriculum provides opportunities for children to develop high aspirations who know how to make a positive contribution to their community and the wider society. We want them to begin, continue and extend their primary education as confident and successful learners and to be responsible citizens both in and outside of their school community. There is a high focus on developing children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding as a whole and we take pride in its unmistakable impact throughout our school community. Personal, health, economic and emotional development is a fundamental part of our whole school curriculum.
Our curriculum is focused on the development of children’s knowledge and skills across all primary subjects with the aim of ensuring that pupils are ready for the next stage of their learning. The curriculum is designed to recognise children’s prior learning, provide first hand learning experiences, allow the children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers. It provides pupils with memorable experiences, in addition to diverse and rich opportunities from which children can learn and develop a range of transferable skills. We aim to build resilience and encourage a positive mindset amongst our children as it is often through mistakes, we learn the most. We value opportunities for real-life, hands-on experiences through educational visits, use of our immediate environment, local area and visitors into school to contextualise and enrich the learning.
Guildford Grove provides a highly inclusive environment where learners enjoy their education. Pupils at all levels are helped to achieve their full potential. Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We celebrate and welcome differences within our school community. Guildford Grove ensures that children are well prepared for life in modern Britain.
