Our pupils who attend choir club each week performed a wonderful medley of songs at G Live with other Guildford schools. It really was a wonderful evening and a proud moment for many of our families and teachers who attended. The children then performed the songs to the school in an assembly.
Year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed their six weeks working with a professional artist from Paintbox and their class teachers to explore a range of art materials, techniques and developing skills such as drawing, pattern and paper-craft. This has built their creative confidence, resilience and wellbeing whilst improving their visual arts knowledge and skills to enrich topic learning.
The children created a range of 2D and 3D artworks which transformed the classroom into the Amazon Rainforest. Friends and family were invited to a private view of an in-school exhibition.
Our annual Wonderful World Week is always a joyous occasion for all the pupils when Jim visits with his diverse collection of drums. Our pupils learn so much about the origin of the drums and the rhythms that are played which builds on their geography and music learning. It is such a treat especially when Year 6 perform to the whole school and their parents.
Year 1 pupils had a ‘smashing’ day yesterday with the Pinata Smashlings, produced by Toikido! They were treated to an inspirational assembly bringing real-world career and STEM themes for the day, incorporating computing and art and design subjects. Jason Perry, a Grammy award-winning record producer and songwriter provided the music fun. It was a fun filled day all round.
Year 5 pupils were visited by an Historian from Surrey History Centre to learn all about a Sidney Sime (1865-1941), the famous artist, illustrator and caricaturist. This visit was linked to learning about local history. The pupils engaged in talking about Sidney Sime’s artwork and the drawing skills he used to create his pieces of artwork. The pupils then had a go at creating their own artwork in the style of Sidney Sime.
As part of the hook for the theme ‘Invasion and Innovation’ in the autumn term, Year 5 classes with visited by Chertsey Museum for an Anglo-Saxon day! They looked at a range of artefacts and studied the daily life of Anglo-Saxons. The explored the similarities and differences between Anglo-Saxons and Vikings life too.
